Comparison…you know that tricky little jive from the inner critic that wants to sabotage our current experience by comparing itself to another. “I suck… they are so much better. I am a total failure.” “Look at where they are…I should be ‘there, ‘doing this’ or ‘doing that’ and I am not good enough…I am a loser..” etc. etc.
It’s that aspect of our ego that is based in fear and unworthiness that stirs up jealousy and competitiveness—it’s goal: to distract us from our flow, owning our value and unique contribution.
I see it all the time in the painting studio, people comparing their paintings AND process to ‘so and so’s.’ I saw it today in myself at lunch when I went to Flint Spark’s Inquiry session. A wonderful mediation, teaching and inquiry session at Appamada Zen Center—– I had an attack of my OWN inner critic….I thought to myself: “I should be doing this. I should be doing a daytime hourly creative inquiry or something for people during lunch. I need to be offering a place for people to come in paint, mediate, share a teaching on the creative process, check out the studio, check out my offerings and blah blah blah. My ego went on…. then I quickly shifted this incessant voice by the realization of its’ foreseeable self-sabotage! It was trying to sway my mojo…into doom and gloom and the more I fed the story about how “I suck and I’m not doing enough…” The more shitty and contracted I felt. Total buzz kill.
So what did I do to get back into the flow? My compassionate self jumped up and took over my monkey-mind…“You give plenty to your community. You ARE doing enough. Look at all of what you HAVE created. What an inspiring group this is and how cool would it be to offer a creative inquiry session as a possibility at some point expressed in your own way. Hey Sparks, thanks for the inspiration! ” …then I let it go and allowed myself to enjoy the hour—of someone else holding the space for me. I allowed myself to receive and be in community as a student. It was such a gift and had I let my ego take over…I could have missed those precious moments of rejuvenation for myself.
When we remember that we all have a unique essence to share with the world, and that each of us contributes a special piece to the global puzzle of humanity…we return to oneness with life. We also remember our value and its unique expression in the world, when we claim it, we claim ourselves and we celebrate one another. Rather than coming from a place of scarcity and unworthiness, we celebrate the abundant nature of life and our ability to create effortlessly when we stay connected to our inner flow.
Where do you sabotage the gifts of your life by comparison?
Time to get in the flow! I am thrilled about this revolutionary experiential evening in the studio coming up at the end of the month:
I am thrilled to announce a co+ creation event with spiritual teacher and energetic facilitator Catherine Heath. The teachings she offers are foundational conversations of universal truths that apply to all spiritual and religious systems.
Before offering a session Catherine goes into a deep state of meditation to coordinate into states of pure awareness. This assures that the personality is not a limiting influence. Because the teachings are not filtered by the personality they come through Catherine as pure knowingness. She refers to these profound teachings as “Guidance” and languages them as a simple, two way conversation to facilitate ease in the communication process. Catherine teaches indiv iduals how to translate their “highest loving potential” into this physical reality; supporting all in realizing states of non-separation in a grounded way.
A MESSAGE FROM GUIDANCE
A wave of change is upon us and our commitment is to teach and support you in preparation for this wave of change in a tangible way. One way to further understand any obstacles or opportunities is through creativity. For example, when painting spontaneously, without an agenda, this format can be used not only to expose your unrealized emotions but also as a tool for releasing. It can show you how you relate to your world -for example.. does the use of intense color represent unrealized anger or passion? Or does a picture of a smaller you represent unworthiness or the child self?
That is one of the things we appreciate about Melissa’s work. Her processes help individuals gain a broader insight into what they are seated inside of – most often unconsciously. And as they begin to express it on paper, they get to have a further vision of themselves that is more tangibly and practically relatable. It can lead one to a new whole level of realization of oneself. Those realizations can result in greater levels of wisdom that manifest in real changes to one’s reality.
Guidance’s Commitment to Humanity
When we address any individual, or group, we focus on your highest potential in this lifetime. We speak to you from that viewpoint only, giving you tools and suggestions to see what belief systems or obstacles exist that support you in not seeing yourself as we do. We teach that compassion, non-judgement, patience and truth are cornerstones to understanding yourself. Without these you hold yourself, like glue, to confusion and unclear thinking.
We take the teachings of the saints, sages and the buddhas, and help translate them into practical everyday tools. Without this, the teachings would stay only on the mental level, remaining only as concepts. This allows one to find happiness and peace, exploring your abundant nature, all within the experience of your own unique and blessed intrinsic nature. Supporting tangible results.
Encouraging experiential awarenesses. This is our commitment to you.
