“Comfort is toxic for Creativity.” -Reverend TD Jakes, The Potter’s House.
This past weekend, I was in Dallas visiting my family. As some of you know I am not a religious person, deeply spiritual – yes – my own personal evolution with the Divine has brought me to a Universal perspective that their are many paths to the source. And some paths have been grossly misinterpreted in my opinion. A distraction to the truth within. A ‘false god’ if you will…
I had seen an interview Oprah did on her new channel OWN with The Reverend TD Jakes and was really inspired by his perspective and expression of truth. Although I don’t always agree with the dualistic language of the church (the us. vs. them) because I know we are all connected in this great macrocosm – I found his clarity and passion for inspiring others to live in the abundance of greatness….totally up my alley. So I wanted to go first hand and experience it myself. Plus I have never been to a church that quite frankly….sets the roof on Fire!
<think large southern gospel>
The energy and love in the room was palpable. I didn’t want to stay in my seat! The 2+ hour service flew by! I have never felt so welcomed by such a large group of people and clearly we were the minorities. The heart of TD’s message that spoke to me was … leadership is born and determined by chaos. It is chaos that provides us with opportunities to grow into our full potential! Chaos, as he was preaching to this choir, was a goldmine of opportunity. Point Zero, the place of all possibility.
When we allow other ‘gods’ or things, comforts, money, relationships, food, substances, addictions, work, to be a distraction we miss invaluable opportunities that will literally raise us up and out of our comfort zone and into our creative genius. Creativity is sparked from a place of need and desire. “You will not be challenged in your convenience but in your chaos.” So the next time you fear a chaotic time or experience, remember this is a calling of sorts, the Universe in its magical wisdom calling you forth to step into your full creative potential.
Can I get a Hell …ya?!
As promised last week, here is the video of the inspired painters from the Martha’s Vineyard retreat. Let us know what you think!
